In Conversation with Sydney Floral Designer Yuna of YNS Floral

YNS Floral has become known for wedding floristry that feels romantic without being overworked, and considered without ever feeling forced. At the heart of the brand is a deep sensitivity to mood, space and feeling, where florals quietly shape the atmosphere rather than dominate it. We sat down with founder Yuna to talk about her intuitive approach to design, collaboration, and creating moments that feel deeply personal for every couple.

THEODORE Mag: YNS Floral has such a signature, romantic style. How would you describe your approach to wedding floristry?

Yuna: My approach to wedding floristry is rooted in creating designs that feel effortlessly romantic, organic, and deeply personal. I focus on designing arrangements that sit comfortably within the space and reflect the overall feeling of the day. Each wedding is approached individually, with care given to how the florals contribute to the atmosphere as a whole.

THEODORE Mag: What inspires the designs you create for couples?

Yuna: Most of my inspiration comes from the couple themselves; their vision, their energy, and how they want their wedding day to feel. I pay close attention to the moods they want to create, whether that’s something intimate, relaxed, romantic, or refined. That sense of mood and atmosphere becomes the foundation for every design decision.

THEODORE Mag: How do you work with a couple’s vision while bringing your own artistry to the table?

Yuna: I start by listening and understanding what the couple cares about most. Once I have a clear sense of their vision, I help guide the floral design in a way that feels natural and balanced, using my experience to suggest what will work best. I see it as a collaboration... their ideas and feelings, combined with my creative approach, to create something that feels personal and true to them.

THEODORE Mag: Can you share a wedding that truly captured the essence of your floral work?

Yuna: It's difficult to choose just one, as each wedding is deeply considered expression of my work.... However, if I had to, it would be Lily & Rory's wedding at Bendooley Estate. We played with rich and bold colours, yet the ceremony felt intimate and romantic, surrounded by the venue's beautiful garden.

THEODORE Mag: How do you approach seasonal flowers while keeping your designs timeless?

Yuna: I focus more on the overall mood and style than on specific flowers. That gives me more flexibility to use what’s seasonal and fresh, while keeping the design feeling timeless and true to the vision.

THEODORE Mag: What emotions or moods do you aim to evoke with your arrangements?

Yuna: I aim to evoke a sense of romance, intimacy, and quiet beauty. I want couples and guests to feel something when they step into the space... a sense of warmth and being fully in the moment. At the same time, I want the florals to enhance the day's atmosphere without overpowering it.

THEODORE Mag: How do you collaborate with other wedding vendors to create a cohesive celebration?

Yuna: I focus on open communication and making sure the florals fit seamlessly with the overall vision. I enjoy sharing ideas and listening to their input so the flowers complement the style and feel of the day without standing apart.

THEODORE Mag: When couples see their floral installations for the first time, what reaction do you hope to see?

Yuna: I hope to see a moment of awe... that quiet pause where everything feels real. Whether it’s happy tears, a smile, or just being speechless, I want couples to feel their vision has been understood and brought to life, even more beautifully than they imagined!
