In Conversation With Wedding Photographer Dea of Little Black Bow
Dea, the creative force behind Little Black Bow Photography, brings a playful romanticism to weddings, blending candid storytelling with intentional, editorial moments. Her couples are connection-driven, fun-loving, and unafraid to celebrate their day in a way that feels completely their own, perfectly aligning with her relaxed, expressive approach.
Your photography has such a playful, romantic feel, how would you describe your approach to capturing weddings?
My approach is a mix of playful direction and letting things unfold naturally. I want my couples to feel fully present and have fun, not having to worry about perfecting posing, but instead embrace what it feels like to live your best day ever.
Can you share a wedding that perfectly reflected your signature aesthetic?
Yes, this wedding of Sophie and Amy. See Below
What kind of couples are naturally drawn to your style?
Couples that value connection over perfection. They're fun-loving, a little adventurous, and authentic to their own kind of love story. They care less about the "rules" of a wedding day and more about the experience of being surrounded by their favourite people and celebrating in a way that feels like them.
How do you balance capturing candid moments with more posed, editorial images?
For me, it's all about the flow and energy of a couple and how their day unfolds, in saying that, I do love the moments where I can create something intentional. I especially love urban backdrops and light composition, for creating editorial images. I will mix these moments in with the candid moments.
How do you create a relaxed atmosphere so couples feel comfortable in front of the camera?
I am unapologetically myself, which seems to make other people feel comfortable being themselves as well. A lot of my couples aren't used to being in front of the camera, however by the end of their portrait shoot they always say "that was really fun!"
Where do you draw inspiration from outside of weddings?
I'm inspired by live music, architecture, vintage fashion, art, documentary photography from the 60's, 70's and 80's and sitting in cafes, drinking coffee and watching human connection.
How do you tell a couple’s story through imagery without words?
I pay attention to the feeling of the day and try to translate that into images. Each couple has a way that they look at each other and interact with each other and their guests, and it's really important for me to show them that, so I can accurately tell their love story.
When couples look at their gallery, what do you hope they feel most strongly?
I want the couple to view their gallery and be taken back to the sound of laughter, the feel of their touch or the tear that rolled down their cheek. I want them to remember that their nan was on the dancefloor, that they felt beautiful in their own skin and that all their hard work with planning their day led to these feelings and captured moments.
