Heather and Greer: A Glass of Wine and a Yes

Heather and Greer’s story began with a brief hello at Newtown Festival, and then a year later, a phone number was exchanged, however the timing wasn't right. It took a chance meeting the following year for everything to fall into place, and from there came a house, a son, and a glass of wine at Camperdown Commons where the idea of a wedding first took shape. Their spring celebration is a reflection of everything they love most: good food, long tables, and dancing late into the night.

THEODORE Mag: How and when did you meet?

Heather: We met through friends in 2018 at Newtown Festival and briefly said hi. Then, a year later, I was invited to Greer's birthday party through a mutual friend. We immediately connected and I gave Greer my phone number to hang out, but the timing wasn't quite right, so nothing eventuated. Then the following year, we ran into each other at Newtown Hotel after Fair Day, when the timing was finally right for both of us. I then invited Greer out to Marley Bar one night, where we had our first kiss!

THEODORE Mag: Tell us a little about that first time you met…

Heather and Greer: We both immediately felt a connection. We could just talk for hours and felt so comfortable in each other's presence. The timing was off, but we found our way back to each other when the time was right!

THEODORE Mag: What was the first thing you noticed about each other?

Heather: Greer's cute smile. I thought she was charming and I liked her confidence.

Greer: I loved Heather's enthusiasm and how excited she was talking about things that she liked. And of course, how hot she is!

THEODORE Mag: Tell us about the standout moment or milestone in your relationship…

Heather and Greer: Our relationship began just before Covid lockdown, so we spent a lot of one-on-one time at each other's houses. Our relationship progressed quickly with all the common Covid activities of puzzles and baking sourdough. We went on a 6-day overnight hike in Tasmania, which was Greer's first ever camping trip but was full of laughter and a few leeches!

We have travelled, bought a house, fixed that house up, and had a son!

THEODORE Mag: What does marriage mean to you?

Heather and Greer: Marriage was never a huge priority to us; however, after our son was born, we really wanted to solidify our relationship and show our commitment to each other and our growing family in the presence of all our closest friends and family. To us, it has made us feel closer to each other, and we both love saying "my wife"!

THEODORE Mag: Who proposed and how?

Heather: We didn't have a traditional proposal. We went down to Camperdown Commons one sunny Sunday afternoon and, with a glass of wine in hand, I said to Greer, ‘This would be a great place for a wedding, should we do it?” Greer's eyes lit up and we immediately started planning, picked a date, emailed the venue and went from there!

THEODORE Mag: When did you get married?

Heather and Greer: 20/09/25.

THEODORE Mag: What was the main influence behind your wedding day?

Heather and Greer: The weather! Spring is our favourite time of year; the weather starts to warm up, but it was still cool enough for us to wear our outfits without getting too hot!

THEODORE Mag: What was the most important thing to you surrounding your wedding?

Heather and Greer: Making sure we enjoyed the planning process and the day. We had heard from other couples that wedding planning can be very stressful. We wanted to avoid the stress and make sure the whole process was fun and we enjoyed our day!

THEODORE Mag: Where did you find the bulk of your inspiration?

Heather and Greer: We focused on the things we love. We like being outdoors, so wanted our ceremony to be outdoors. We love sharing food with our family and friends, so we had 2 big long tables where we could eat together and move around to chat to our guests. We also LOVE dancing, so made sure we had a fantastic DJ (who also happened to play saxophone) and plenty of songs on our playlist that we could dance together to.

THEODORE Mag: How did you choose your suppliers?

Heather and Greer: They were mostly referrals! We were given the name of our fabulous celebrant and MC, Lucy Suze, from someone who had been at a wedding she had previously officiated. From there, Lucy recommended our fantastic photographer, Samantha Heather, and Sam then recommended our amazing DJ, DJ Betty Swing!

The staff at Camperdown Commons organised all the food, wine and set-up for us, the cake was from our local coffee shop, Tokyo Lamington, and our outfits, hair and makeup were recommended through friends!

We couldn't have asked for a better group to help us enjoy our day!

THEODORE Mag: What was the most difficult thing about planning your wedding?

Heather and Greer: The whole process was surprisingly easy and it was just like planning a big party!

Writing our vows was probably the hardest part. There was so much we wanted to say, but also trying to keep it light and short — there were many drafts and edits!

THEODORE Mag: Where did you spend your honeymoon?

Heather and Greer: We wanted to go to Paris, but we had our 18-month-old son coming along, so we picked Fiji!

Highly recommend it to couples who are bringing kids but still want a bit of alone time. Nannies, kids' club activities and many cocktails by the pool!

In a few years we might have another one and escape to Paris alone.

THEODORE Mag: Any advice for other couples planning their day and finding it difficult to navigate the journey?

Heather and Greer: Focus on yourselves as a couple and pick everything that you want for your day. It's easy to get caught up with everyone else's opinions and ideas, but at the end of the day, it's your wedding and you can do it exactly how you want!
