6 years after first meeting, Luke and Jeff celebrated their love in an intimate cocktail style wedding. November 23rd was chosen as the day to say ‘I Do’ as this was also the date of their very first date.

How and when did you meet?

Jeff: I first met a drunk Luke on a podium at a Perth nightclub in 2013.

Luke: Sober me met Jeff a week later on our first date.

Tell us a little about the first time you met?

Luke: I was first impressed by Jeff’s kindness and gentle nature.

Jeff: For me, it was Luke’s smile (and dance moves) that first captivated me.

Tell us about the standout moments in your relationship?

Luke and Jeff: Getting married and buying a house together, and adopting our greyhound, Rocket.

What does marriage mean to you?

Luke and Jeff: Having a partner in crime, someone to annoy, someone to make tea and coffee, someone to laugh with (or at), and someone to eye roll at my lame dad jokes (Jeff).

Who proposed and how?

Luke: My proposal to Jeff unfolded when we were travelling across the Nullarbor. Jeff was taking a photo at a sight seeing platform, overlooking the Great Australian Bite, when he noticed myself on the ground. Jeff thought I had fallen over, but I was actually on one knee, asking him to marry me. I had threatened Jeff that if he said no, he was going to be pushed off the cliff!

When did you get married?
Saturday, 23rd of November 2019.

Luke and Jeff’s story continues below

What was the main influence behind your wedding day?

Luke & Jeff: Our first date was on the 23rd of November, so the 23rd holds a special place, hence we chose this date for our wedding.

What was the most important thing to you surrounding your wedding?

Luke & Jeff: That our family and friends had a great time celebrating our love.

Tell us about your wedding suppliers?

Luke & Jeff: Our wedding planner was amazing, our celebrant was such a joy and pleasure who helped set the atmosphere, and our DJ Ash Keogh kept the celebrations going into the night.

Did you find it difficult to translate more common traditions into a ‘same-sex’ wedding?

Luke & Jeff: We made it our own. We didn’t follow traditions. We had our siblings as our parties, our parents/pa walked us both down the aisle.

Any surprises on your wedding day? Or anything that didn’t go to plan?

Luke & Jeff: Our wedding felt seamless, there weren’t any issues or hiccups. We were both happy to go with the flow as long as our guests were enjoying themselves.

What was the most difficult thing about planning your wedding?

Jeff: Making all the decisions doesn’t come easy, as well as finalising numbers.

Any advice for other couples planning their day and finding it difficult to navigate the journey?

Luke & Jeff: Just remember it is your day, so have what you want and do it your own way. If you’re having a cocktail style reception, like we did, make sure you eat some of the food. We were too caught up socialising we forgot to eat.
