An Urban Elopement

If 2020 taught us anything in wedding planning, it is that being true to yourself as a couple is fundamental, and keeping things simple by no way means keeping things boring, and this elopement shoot cements just that.

Conceptualised by Photographer- Brady Bates, and Chas Thompson Thomas of Wildflower Portland, the duo found Michaela and Adrianne an elopement venue hiding in plain sight – the local skate park.

On a global front, intimate and smaller weddings are now more desirable for couples. With wildfires ravaging the West Coast of the United States, elopements in nature have become somewhat dangerous and equally unpredictable; hence Brady Bates and Chas Thompson have now turned our attention to the urban elopement.

The Judy Schmidt Memorial Skate Park in Silverton, Oregon was finished in 2013; the park stands as a testament to Schmidt's advocacy for recreational opportunities for the city's youth and those young at heart.

In planning Michaela and Adrianne's elopement, the creatives wanted to celebrate other local women and artists. Modern stationery by Camila Dias of Carta Plena and postage stamps by Japanese-American artist- Ruth Asawa, helped bring this modern vision to life.
