Five Minutes with Italian Wedding Photographer Elisabetta Marzetti

For Italian wedding photographer Elisabetta Marzetti, photography begins long before the camera is raised. Rooted in human connection, sensitivity, and a deep appreciation for honest emotion, her work balances quiet refinement with genuine feeling. The result is imagery that feels timeless, intimate, and entirely centred on the people at its heart.

THEODORE Mag: Your work feels both refined and deeply emotive. How would you describe your approach to capturing a wedding day?

Elisabetta Marzetti: When I photograph a wedding, I don’t step into a role, I simply become even more myself.

I am naturally calm, present, and quite sensitive, and I allow that to guide me. Even after many years, I still get emotional during certain moments, especially speeches. Feeling things so deeply helps me recognize them, and hold them with care as they unfold.

What matters to me is creating a space where everything can happen naturally. Where the couple feels safe, at ease, and never overwhelmed.

Before photography, there is always a human connection.

THEODORE Mag: What draws you to a couple or a celebration? Is there something you instinctively look for before saying yes?

Elisabetta Marzetti: What I notice instinctively is kindness. A certain softness, a genuine way of being.

When that is there, everything flows naturally, and it creates the foundation for something honest and meaningful.

THEODORE Mag: There’s a softness and honesty in your imagery. How do you create an environment where people feel truly themselves in front of your lens?

Elisabetta Marzetti: It comes from a very genuine place. I truly care about the people I photograph.

I feel a quiet sense of gratitude every time someone chooses me, and that naturally shapes how I show up. There is no distance, no performance, just presence.

Very often, it feels as if I’ve known them for a long time. Not only the couple, but their families too. Something very natural and beautiful happens from that.

Practically, it begins with listening. Understanding how they feel, how comfortable they are, how much guidance they need, and how free they want to be.

What I want to protect, more than anything, is their experience.

THEODORE Mag: How has your personal perspective on love and relationships shaped the way you photograph weddings?

Elisabetta Marzetti: Completely.

My work has always evolved alongside me. The way I see love, the way I experience connection, everything finds its way into my photography.

There is no separation between who I am and how I photograph.

THEODORE Mag: What role does fashion and styling play in your work, and how do you balance this with capturing unscripted moments?

Elisabetta Marzetti: Fashion is an important part of my visual language, especially in the way I approach portraits.

I love that moment because it becomes something very intimate. A quiet space where I can gently guide, without ever forcing.

At the same time, most of what I do is candid and documentary. I try to hold a balance between intention and spontaneity, allowing both to coexist naturally.

THEODORE Mag: When you look back at your portfolio, what kind of moments do you feel most connected to?

Elisabetta Marzetti: The most human ones.

The quiet emotions, the tears during a speech, the small looks, the first moments of seeing each other.

All those moments where something real is felt.

THEODORE Mag: How do you approach photographing LGBTQI+ couples, and what does inclusivity mean to you within your work?

Elisabetta Marzetti: To be honest, I don’t particularly resonate with the word “inclusivity,” because it almost suggests that exclusion is a possibility. And that is not something I naturally conceive.

For me, it’s about creating a space where people feel welcomed, respected, and completely free to be themselves, without being seen through labels or expectations. It should simply be the baseline.

Love asks to be seen with sensitivity, respect, and honesty.

And that is exactly how I approach my work.

THEODORE Mag: Your work often feels timeless rather than trend-led. Is that a conscious decision?

Elisabetta Marzetti: Yes, very much.

My goal is for my couples to love their images even in 30 or 40 years, and to feel they chose something true to them.

Trends come and go, but honesty remains. That is what I try to protect in my work.

THEODORE Mag: What do you hope couples feel when they receive their gallery for the first time?

Elisabetta Marzetti: I hope they feel something before they even start looking closely.

That they are brought back to that day, not only through what happened, but through what they felt, and even through moments they might have missed.

I care deeply about how the gallery flows, because I want it to feel alive, emotional, and never repetitive.

THEODORE Mag: As a photographer, how do you continue to evolve creatively while staying true to your signature aesthetic?

Elisabetta Marzetti: By staying open.

I find inspiration in art, spirituality, and in meaningful human connections. My life extends far beyond photography. I play the drums, I practice yoga, I cycle, I run, and I’ve been traveling solo for over 20 years. All of these experiences shape the way I see and feel.

My sensitivity is also a big part of my process. Feeling things deeply can be intense, but it allows me to create work that carries meaning.

I try to move through all of this with gentleness, curiosity, and dedication, staying true to what feels honest to me.
