Mateusz and Michał: Simple and Chic with Italian Vibes
Mateusz and Michał’s love story began in the most modern way—through an online chatroom—but quickly grew into something timeless. From their first in-person meeting in Warsaw, where hours of conversation sparked an undeniable connection, to their intimate and chic wedding with Italian-inspired vibes, their journey has been about celebrating authenticity, love, and the people who matter most.

“Marriage, to us, is an expression of love and commitment. It’s about publicly affirming our desire to spend our lives together—a dream we’ve both cherished for a long time.”
How and when did you meet?
Mateusz: We met online, on one of those now-defunct chatrooms for gay men. At the time, I was still living in my hometown, while Michał had already been studying in Warsaw for four years.
Michał: For over six months, our connection was purely virtual—we only talked over the phone. Then, after Mateusz moved to Warsaw for his studies, we decided to meet in person.
Mateusz: We ended up spending three hours just talking during that first meeting. There was this instant positive energy between us.
Michał: And actually, we met again later that same day. From then on, we started spending more and more time together every day.
Tell us a little about that first time you met…
Mateusz: I was a bit nervous because, after months of getting to know each other virtually, we were finally meeting in person. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect.
Michał: I was just excited to meet the guy I’d been texting and talking to for so long. And it turned out to be just as great as it had been online—the same good vibes and connection.
Mateusz: We talked about everything, laughed a lot, and I knew I wanted to get to know Michał better. At that moment, though, I didn’t yet realise he was the one.
What was the first thing you noticed about each other?
Mateusz: His blue-green eyes.
Michał: His genuine smile.
Tell us about the standout moments in your relationship…
Mateusz: Our first holidays spent together with family were unforgettable. Michał: And all the trips we’ve taken together—they’ve been some of the best moments of our lives.
Have you ever faced any issues of non-acceptance?
Mateusz: We’re fortunate that we haven’t faced any issues of non-acceptance.
Michał: Yes, we’ve been lucky in that sense, and we’re grateful for the support we’ve received from those around us.
What does marriage mean to you?
Mateusz: For us, marriage is much more than just a legal contract or formal commitment. It symbolises the next chapter in our journey together—solidifying the bond we already share and marking a significant step forward in our relationship.
Michał: Even though our country doesn’t yet recognise marriage between two men, being able to marry abroad still holds profound meaning for us. It may not have legal standing back home, but the emotional and symbolic importance is undeniable.
Mateusz: Marriage, to us, is an expression of love and commitment. It’s about publicly affirming our desire to spend our lives together—a dream we’ve both cherished for a long time.
Michał: It’s not just about the ceremony or the official title but about what it represents: our shared life, our partnership, and the support we’ll always have for one another.
Mateusz: In a world where legal recognition isn’t always possible, the symbolic act of getting married becomes even more meaningful. It’s our declaration that we are a family, that we belong to each other, and that our love is just as valid as anyone else’s.
Michał: For us, marriage is about embracing the future together—through all its challenges and joys—knowing that we’re choosing to face it side by side. It’s about building a life together, grounded in love, respect, and the deep understanding that we are each other’s chosen person, no matter what.
Who proposed and how?
Mateusz: We didn’t have a traditional proposal in the usual sense. There was no grand gesture, no getting down on one knee, or a planned surprise.
Michał: It was more of a mutual decision that came naturally to us. One evening, as we talked about our future, we realised marriage was something we both truly wanted.
Mateusz: It wasn’t about tradition or formality; it was about making a commitment to each other.
Michał: Exactly. We simply looked at each other, and it felt like the most obvious next step. It was a quiet, intimate moment that reflected who we are—honest, straightforward, and deeply connected.
When did you get married?
Saturday, September 7th, 2024
What was the main influence behind your wedding day?
Mateusz: Simple and chic with Italian vibes
What was the most important thing to you surrounding your wedding?
Mateusz: For me, it was about creating an intimate atmosphere where we could truly celebrate our love with the people who mean the most to us. Bringing together our closest family and friends was so important—it made the day even more special.
Michał: The most important thing for me was that the day reflected who we are as a couple—simple, heartfelt, and full of joy. Having our loved ones, both family and friends, all together in one place was unforgettable.
Where did you find the bulk of your inspiration?
Mateusz: Honestly, we found most of our inspiration on Instagram and Pinterest. There are so many amazing ideas out there—it really helped us figure out what we wanted.
How did you choose your suppliers?
Mateusz: We searched a lot on Instagram—it’s such a great way to discover talented suppliers.
Michał: Yes, but we also had a lot of help from our wedding planner. They guided us and recommended some amazing vendors who really matched our vision for the day.
What was the most difficult thing about planning your wedding?
Mateusz: The hardest part was sticking to the original budget we had planned.
Michał: Definitely! It’s so easy to get carried away when you see all the beautiful options out there, but we had to remind ourselves to stay realistic.
Where did you spend your honeymoon?
Mateusz: We’re going to Australia, a place we’ve dreamed about for so long.
Michał: Yes, it’s been on our bucket list for years. We’re heading there at the end of December and will be spending almost a month exploring.
Any advice for other couples planning their day and finding it difficult to navigate the journey?
Mateusz: Plan your wedding for yourselves. It’s your day, and the most important thing is that it feels right to you.
Michał: Exactly. Don’t get caught up in trying to please everyone else. Focus on what makes you happy as a couple—that’s what will make the day truly special.
