“…I’m really proud to say that none of the weddings I've created look alike. Each one has its own special twist, but most importantly, they all reflect the unique personalities of the couples.”

What initially inspired you to pursue a career as a wedding stylist, and how has your journey unfolded since then?

I've always been a hands-on type of gal, loving to create and craft beautiful things. Drawing and painting weren't my jam, but I had a knack for colours, shapes, and form and I was intrigued by how interior spaces can change and affect a person’s experience and mood. This led me to study Interior Architecture at University. But after five years in that field, I felt something was missing. Then, I stumbled into the world of flowers while helping out a friend with her wedding bouquets. Once I started, I couldn't get enough.

I never thought flowers could be an art form, but turns out I had a knack for creating unique floral arrangements that could be seen as art. Strangers started asking me to do their weddings, and that's when it hit me—I could blend my interior background with event styling. It's been a wild ride since then and I absolutely love bringing unique visions to life!

Can you share some of your favourite wedding styles that you've worked on, and what makes them unique or memorable?

Every single one of my weddings is different, so it is hard to pick a fav!

I think one of the true highlights was the wedding of Issy + Christian at Assembly Yard in Fremantle. Christian's Italian roots were central, and Issy was keen on embracing the authentic Italian essence through food, vibrant colours, lively music, and an overall joyful atmosphere. It also needed to be inspired by their experience at Coachella, they aimed to infuse a festival spirit into every aspect of the day, and that is exactly what it was.

What makes it memorable is the experience you have with your couples. With Issy and Christan it was bliss. We had an open and honest relationship and we could tell each other our honest opinions and concerns. They trusted my opinion and vision wholeheartedly and it truly made for a unique wedding and an authentic experience for both of us.

At the core of it all, my ultimate aim for every wedding is to have the couple's personality and essence shine through the styling and decor, so that when their family and friends step into the space, they see them truly represented. And, at Issy and Christian's wedding, that's exactly the reaction we got from their guests.

How do you approach incorporating a couple's personalities and preferences into the design of their wedding?

I love to get my couples to send me 5-10 photos of things they absolutely love. It can be photos of their house, places they’ve travelled and loved, art or architecture that intrigues them and their origin stories of cultural backgrounds or experiences they have had together (and individually). This paints a great picture of who they are and what they love and I take it from there. I ask them to stay clear of wedding images of styling and flowers in the initial stages, this allows me to think outside the box and create visions without looking at what has already been created.

I'm really proud to say that none of the weddings I've created look alike. Each one has its own special twist, but most importantly, they all reflect the unique personalities of the couples. That's my main aim—to showcase these amazing people in their own, one-of-a-kind way.

What are some common challenges you face as a wedding stylist, and how do you overcome them to create stunning and cohesive designs?

I think money talks and budget is always a challenge in any job, but especially amongst weddings. With the likes of Pinterest, Vogue magazines, editorial shoots, etc sometimes it can paint a very unrealistic picture of what a wedding should look like and what certain budgets can get you. It’s really important to me that I am transparent with my couples about what can be achieved for their investment. It creates trust and helps manage expectations so there is no disappointment down the track.

Another challenge I face is not having access to vendors or items that may be really accessible elsewhere in Australia or the world. Sometimes my big ideas are just not possible because I cannot seem to source what I need to make it happen, it is a true internal struggle of mine, haha.

In your opinion, what are some emerging trends in wedding styling that couples should consider for their special day?

I believe the European wedding trend is here to stay, however, it is evolving from the coastal Amalfi vibe to a more rich, luxurious and romantically bold aesthetic that involves influence from the Renaissance and the Baroque eras, which I am 100% here for.

I love a trend as much as the next person, however, I am not one to push them because I am a true advocate for couples doing them and staying true to who they are and what they love. There is no right or wrong when it comes to considering styling for your wedding day, just as long as you can look back at what you did and say it truly reflected your love and who you were (at the time).

What advice do you have for couples who are seeking guidance on choosing the right aesthetic or theme for their wedding?

Start by noticing the things you love and what you are drawn to. Compile a list of photos and/or words that describe this. My biggest advice is don’t go straight to looking at photos of weddings, look at your wardrobe, patterns you are drawn to, places you have travelled, and colours you love, start there, and then you can start translating this into what your wedding could look like.

If you have no idea where to start or how to translate these into how your wedding could look, hire a stylist who can take these images and words and turn them into your wildest dreams, I promise, you won’t regret enlisting a professional.

Stay true to who you are and what you love. Don’t jump on trends because it’s the thing to do if you're not sure about them.

What is your number one piece of wedding planning advice?

Do what you want and what lights your soul on fire. Don’t worry about what your parents or your aunts and uncles might think. This day is about you and who you both are. Celebrate your love in the way you want to.

At the end of the day, you will never please everyone, so please yourselves and make yourselves happy.
