Yaya Films: Connection, Presence and Emotional Honesty
Yaya Films approaches wedding filmmaking with a quiet reverence for connection, presence and emotional honesty. Rooted in making people feel completely at ease, their work favours feeling over perfection, capturing days as they are lived rather than staged. The result is storytelling that feels less like a production and more like a memory, one you can return to and feel, again and again.
For those discovering Yaya Films for the first time, how would you describe the essence of your brand and the experience you create for couples?
Yaya Films is about connection, presence and honesty. At its core, the brand is grounded in making people feel comfortable enough to be themselves. We don’t chase perfection, we chase emotion. The experience we create for couples is calm, supportive and personal, so they can fully live their day knowing it’s being captured with care. We want our films to feel like memories, not productions, something that brings you straight back to how it felt.
Your brand voice is warm, playful and deeply human. How intentional was that from the beginning, and what does that tone say about the way you approach wedding films?
It was very intentional, even if it came instinctively. That warmth and playfulness is just who we are as people, and it is naturally how we shaped Yaya Films. Weddings are emotional, sometimes chaotic, sometimes hilarious, and we believe there’s beauty in all of it. That tone reflects our approach behind the camera too, relaxed, observant and open-hearted. When people feel at ease, real moments happen.
Yaya Films was named after your daughter, Yara. How does that personal connection shape the way you see love, family and storytelling through your lens?
Naming the business after Yara grounded everything for me. It’s a constant reminder that what we’re documenting isn’t just a single day, it’s the beginning of a family story. Becoming a parent reshaped how I see love and life, it made it deeper, messier and more meaningful. That perspective flows into our films. We’re always thinking long-term, about legacy, memory and the moments that will matter most years from now.
You’re known for capturing the beautifully unpolished moments. The laughter, the chaos, the emotion. What draws you to that style, and how do you create space for real moments to unfold?
Real life is unpolished, and that’s where the magic lives. The unexpected laughter, the nerves, the happy tears, those moments tell the real story of the day. We don’t stage or interrupt; we observe. By building trust early and being a calming presence, couples forget about the camera. When there’s space to breathe, moments naturally unfold, and that’s when the most powerful storytelling happens.
From Melbourne weddings to celebrations abroad, what excites you most about filming in different environments and cultures?
Every place brings its own rhythm and energy. Different cultures celebrate love in beautifully unique ways, and it’s inspiring to witness that up close. Whether it’s an intimate Melbourne ceremony or a destination wedding overseas, we’re always drawn to the human connections within those settings. New environments challenge us creatively and keep our storytelling fresh and curious.
Couples often mention how relaxed and supported they feel with you. What does the client experience look like from the moment they enquire to the moment they receive their film?
From the first enquiry, our goal is to create clarity and ease. We take the time to really listen, understand what matters to each couple and guide them through the process without overwhelm. On the wedding day, we’re there quietly, confidently and supportively. Afterward, the editing process is handled with care and intention, every film is crafted slowly and thoughtfully. By the time couples receive their film, it feels like a true reflection of them.
Yaya Films has such a distinct visual identity and energy. How has the brand evolved over time, and what direction do you see it taking next?
The heart of Yaya Films has always stayed the same, but the brand has grown more refined and confident. Over time, we’ve leaned further into authenticity, letting go of trends and trusting our instincts. Moving forward, the focus is on deeper storytelling, more intentional projects and continuing to evolve creatively while staying true to our values.
Finally, what do you hope couples feel when they watch their wedding film years from now, and what do you hope they remember about working with Yaya Films?
I hope they feel transported, like they’re stepping back into that day, surrounded by the people and emotions that mattered most. I want them to feel seen and understood. And I hope they remember working with Yaya Films as something easy, supportive and meaningful, like having someone there who truly cared about their story.
