Andreas and Christian: A Summer Garden Party

For Andreas and Christian, the idea for their wedding was to create a summer garden party, and that's precisely what they did. Everything from outdoor bowling to pedal cars was on offer for their guests to enjoy. As the day turned to night, the couple finished their day with an evening wedding ceremony performed exclusively by family members.

How and when did you meet?

Christian: We met on a dating platform. Fortunately, Andreas was visiting his parents, and I was on a short vacation with friends, Otherwise, our search radar would not have found each other. This led to a long-distance relationship for almost 2 years.

Tell us a little about the earlier days of your relationship...

Andreas: I was in a position where my motivation for dating and my trust to meet someone with the potential for a relationship was relatively low.

Christian: I outed myself just several months prior, and my feelings while finding a partner were exciting but complex. We learned pretty early on that relationships are more than just romantic feelings. It is constantly working together, learning to understand and respect each other.

What does marriage mean to you?

Andreas: Marriage for me means being part of each other's lives, being connected and looking out together for paths to walk and opportunities to take.

Christian: For me, marriage means an enduring partnership that builds on trust and openness.

Who proposed and how?

Andreas: Honestly, when it comes to an engagement, don't we all have two wishes? To ask for and to be asked. Christian was eager to be asked, which I then did in winter 2018. But I didn't know that he was preparing for my proposal with a counter-proposal. So, I got down on my knees on a beach in Holland and asked if he wanted to marry me, and suddenly Christian also went down on his knees and asked me. It was just beautiful.

When did you get married?

We married on August 28th 2021. We were hoping for a sunny day but got a mixed day with rain and sun. Not too warm and not too cold. Other than expected, but it was fine.

What was the primary influence behind your wedding day?

The basic idea for our wedding was a summer party with family and friends. Even though the weather didn't quite cooperate, looking back, we can say that's exactly how it turned out. The day was planned so that everyone had fun on the grounds. Everything from outdoor bowling to pedal cars was on offer.

Where did you find the majority of your inspiration?

Planning our wedding took almost a year. We had enough time to think about it and get inspired. At other weddings, you tend to learn what you don't want. We found good inspiration in decoration stores and sometimes at wedding fairs. But the final concept was created in collaboration with our florist.

How did you choose your suppliers?

We met our photographer at a wedding fair. Fortunately! Our location manager also suggested the majority of our suppliers.

Any standout suppliers?

Simone, our photographer, is more than talented. We immediately fell in love with her oeuvre and her work. She has her own style that goes far beyond that basic Instagram Style. The whole collaboration was just gorgeous and relaxing. And Katharina, our florist from Blumenhof Butz did a great job. Katharina is committed to every customer and is also full of imagination and ideas and, in the end, offers pragmatic strategies when something does not work as planned.

What was the most challenging thing about planning your wedding?

The pandemic regulations prompted us to draw up a list of people who we would have had to unload above a certain threshold. Fortunately, it did not come to that. However, the understanding was there for all. And, of course, the seating plan. To all the wedding couples: this is family policy.

Where did you spend your honeymoon?

Inspired by the Eurovision Song contest 2018, a European music event that introduces a new country in Europe every year, we chose Portugal. There we made a fantastic round trip for about 3 weeks.

Any advice for other couples planning their day and finding it difficult to navigate the journey?

We advise you to stay relaxed and assert your style, even if your family has different expectations. Our wedding was vegetarian, but the parents were worried about the BBQ lovers in the family. We stayed firm. All were happy in the end.
