Kurt and Glenn: A Mediterranean Love

Before we get into the details of Kurt and Glenn's wedding day, their proposal story is a MUST read. Without giving too much away, BOTH grooms planned a surprise proposal unbeknownst to the other, but what's even more surprising, they both planned it to take place at a similar time... you need to read it.

What does marriage mean to you? It’s a blend of two special connections on every level. It’s a daily celebration and a reminder that you found someone to love, support and share anything you do for the rest of your life…”

How and when did you meet?

We met during Winter 2011 at St. Julians.

Tell us a little about the first time you met?

Even though we met in 2011, we officially started our relationship in 2013.

Our first date was a cold December Tuesday night. We went into a local wine bar and were the last two to leave. We couldn’t stop talking! We grabbed another bottle of wine and went to the grand harbour in Valletta and just stood there. It was a bit surreal for both of us that after 2 years we were officially dating as we had our ‘on again off again’ period for quite a long time.

Talk to us about the milestone moments in your relationship…

Glenn: There’s so many. However, I always insist that the moment that I honestly knew that our relationship was a step ahead was back in 2016, precisely on our 3rd year anniversary while we were on a holiday in Berlin. We witnessed a terrorist attack at the Berlin Christmas market; while both of us were stuck in the middle of the chaos, we looked after each other till we were safe. That was something which made us even closer and something we will never forget in our lifetime.

Naturally, we cannot not mention the moment we brought home our two adopted dogs, Stilla and Salvu.

What does marriage mean to you?

It’s a blend of two special connections on every level. It’s a daily celebration and a reminder that you found someone to love, support and share anything you do for the rest of your life.

Who proposed and how?

Glenn: Oh well, this is one of my favourite stories of us to date.

When we started dating, Kurt was convinced that if we ever reached a point in our relationship where one of us is to propose, he would not be the one doing so.

Back in October 2018, we were planning a trip to Madrid with our close circle of friends, so I thought this would be the ideal occasion for a wedding proposal.

I told these friends my plan and even gave the proposal ring to my best friend to hide it all away from Kurt.

On our first night in beautiful Madrid, we were out for a couple of drinks, and while we were walking in the middle of Plaza Mayor, our friends started playing the famous game ‘Never have I ever…’, in which Kurt came up with his phrase ‘Never have I ever proposed to someone and was down on his knees proposing to me with the exact same ring that I bought to propose to him.

I wonder you’re asking how all this happened? Practically we both came up with the same idea to propose to each other in Madrid and bought the same BVLGARI ring we both always wanted.

So, it ended up with a double proposal. Our proposal also ended up being mentioned on local news portals.

When did you get married?

We got married on Saturday 14th August 2021.

Kurt and Glenn’s story continues below

What was the main influence behind your wedding day?

We are both very Mediterranean. We had it clear from the beginning - as this was a summer wedding, we wanted a feeling of a proper Maltese Festa where everyone would be eating, drinking, dancing and celebrating the Maltese way.

What was the most important thing to you surrounding your wedding?

Definitely the love and support we received from both our families and our closest circle of friends.

Where did you find the bulk of your inspiration?

Kurt: We had our wedding day planned in our head already, which we had discussed over and over again many times, but most of our inspiration was taken from real-life weddings we’ve seen on websites and magazines just like Theodore and bits and pieces from Pinterest and Instagram combined with our likings which then reflected in our total wedding inspiration.

Any standout suppliers?

We must say that the venue itself, Gracy’s, was a standout from the beginning of the process to the end. It was their first wedding that they ever catered for and they delivered meticulously.

Kevin, our singer, was also a showman who entertained our guests without any hesitations all night long.

Kris and Durston, the photographer and videographer, also made us feel super relaxed and comfortable during the day.

Albert from Ivory & Co who was so patient with our mothers and sisters in creating their dream gowns for this special day

However, one of the most important things for us was that our ceremony was officiated by our best friend Jeanelle, who, even though she’s not a supplier she delivered her task so professionally.

Any surprises on your wedding day? Or anything that didn’t go to plan?

Everything was magical, and if we had to do it all over again, we would hands down not change anything. We planned a small surprise for our guests when we joined Kevin the singer on stage and sang a very popular song in Maltese to our guests. Let’s say that this was a surprise, but our voices didn’t go with the plan.

What was the most challenging thing about planning your wedding?

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we had to postpone our original wedding, which was meant to take place back in 2020, in which we were planning a big wedding with approximately 850 guests (in Malta we take weddings seriously and it was another special occasion to party.)

Because of this, we had to re-organise everything and hold a very intimate wedding this year with only 42 guests in total, resulting in us leaving a lot of special and important people out of our guest list due to Covid restrictions and regulations.

Where did you spend your honeymoon?

We’ve spent a total of 10 days in the beautiful Amalfi Coast and Capri in Italy.

Any advice for other couples planning their day and finding it difficult to navigate the journey?

Kurt: RELAX and also don’t be afraid to stick to your original ideas even though sometimes suppliers give you different opinions. At the end this is your special day, and no one will picture this the way you do.

Enjoy it as time flies during the day,
